Cambodia and India share common views on ASEAN's important for Myanmar

PHNOM PENH: India Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar praised Cambodia's important role as chair of ASEAN in 2022 after monitoring the situation in Myanmar.

During a telephone conversation between Cambodia Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on January 10, the two sides shared the same views on the important role of ASEAN to assist Myanmar in finding a peaceful solution through effective five-point consensus.

The Deputy Prime Minister informed the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs about the positive results of the state visit of Cambodia's Prime Minister to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on January 7-08, 2022.

Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said India is a neighbor of Myanmar, and has been monitoring closely to the situation in Myanmar and highly appreciated Cambodia's important role as ASEAN chair this year.

Myanmar shares a 1,331 km border with India.

Cambodia Prime Minister, Hun Sen travels to Myanmar to meet with military leader Min Aung Hlaing on January 7, 2022, to help resolve the country's crisis and bring Myanmar back to ASEAN. During the meeting, Myanmar military leader Min Aung Hlaing promised to Prime Minister Hun Sen that the Myanmar military government will extend the ceasefire until the end of 2022, facilitate the process of receiving aid from ASEAN and facilitate the ASEAN special envoy to visit Myanmar to meet with all parties in the country, including ethnic armed groups.
